Brantas Abipraya Builds Bagong Dam, Will Support Irrigation in Trenggalek
Jakarta, January 30th 2024 - PT Brantas Abipraya (Persero) continues to strengthen its role in supporting the Government to meet Indonesia's water needs. This is proven by the completion of the dams being built by the Karya State-Owned Enterprise (BUMN), one of which is the construction of the Bagong Dam in Trenggalek, East Java. It will be a multifunctional dam, the construction of this dam will support irrigation in Trenggalek and its surroundings.
"We are optimistic that we will complete this dam on time, so that the people of Trenggalek and surrounding areas can quickly feel the benefits. Later this dam can increase the Irrigation Area (DI) in Trenggalek by 867 hectares," said Muhammad Toha Fauzi, Director of Operations I Brantas Abipraya.
Toha added, the dam, which is located in Sumurup and Sengon villages, 10 kilometers from the city center of Trenggalek Regency, gets its water source from the Bagong River with a watershed area (DAS) of 39.95 square kilometers. Designed with a zonal fill type, Bagong Dam has a vertical core crest height of 82 meters and a length of 678 meters. The Bagong Dam is projected to be able to support raw water needs in Pogalan District, Trenggalek. This is because this dam has a capacity of 17.40 million m3, apart from that, the Bagong Dam also functions to reduce the water discharge of the Bagong River by 78.44% as well as the Bagong Watershed and tourism potential.
When met in a separate place, the Main Director of Brantas Abipraya Sugeng Rochadi said the dam aims to fulfill the mission of food security and water security in the Government's National Strategic Program. Not only as a source of raw water, the Bagong Dam is a multi-purpose dam which also functions as flood control, a source of irrigation areas, a source of electricity generation and also has the potential to become a new tourism destination.
The construction of this dam is our effort to mitigate the water crisis and drought that occurs due to climate change. Sugeng Rochadi also said that apart from the dam, Brantas Abipraya is also building reservoirs and irrigation networks.
"Brantas Abipraya will continue to demonstrate its commitment to advancing the infrastructure sector, one of which is the development of water resources. "Through this Bagong Dam project, it is also a concrete manifestation of the positive synergy between Brantas Abipraya as a Karya BUMN and the Ministry of PUPR (Public Works and Public Housing)," concluded Sugeng Rochadi.
