Brantas Abipraya Works on the Highest Dam in Indonesia10 June 2021
Jakarta, Juni 10th, 2021 – Confirming its position as the most reliable construction company in dam construction in Indonesia, PT Brantas Abipraya (Persero) has proven its expertise by building the Bener Dam, which will become Indonesia's highest dam and the second-highest dam in Southeast Asia. Located in Guntur Village, Bener District, Purworejo Regency, Central Java, this dam is one of the national strategic projects (PSN) among a series of prime projects that being carried out by this construction SOE (State Owned Enterprise).
"Yes, later this dam will be the highest in Indonesia with a height of 159 meters, a pile length of 543 meters, and a bottom width of about 290 meters. We (Brantas Abipraya) focus on the step of making access roads, tunnels, and the main dam," said Catur Prabowo as Director of Operations 1 Brantas Abipraya.
Being part of the PSN that has been stipulated through Prepres No. 56 of 2018 regarding the Acceleration of Implementation of National Strategic Projects, the Bener Dam will be able to irrigate 15,069 hectares of agricultural land, reducing flood discharge by 210 m3/second. Other functions are as a provider of raw water for the households, municipal and industrial purposes at 1,500 liters/second to 10 sub-districts in Purworejo district, 3 sub-districts in Kebumen district, and 2 sub-districts in Kulon Progo district.
Not only that, Catur added that this dam will also have a function as a hydropower plant because the Bener Dam can supply 6 megawatts (MW) of electrical energy. Located in Central Java, the Bener Dam has a water storage capacity of 100.94 million cubic meters. The location, which is flanked by two hills, will also add tourism spots such as nature tourism and water tourism in the dam area, and develop the fisheries sector.
Strengthening its position as the toughest construction SOE in water infrastructure development, not only is it working on a dam in Purworejo, Brantas Abipraya is currently also completing several other dams such as the Budong-Budong Dam in West Sulawesi, Sepaku Semoi Dam in East Kalimantan, Bintang Bano Dam in Nusa West Southeast, Bagong Dam in Trenggalek, Jragung Dam in Semarang, Semantok Dam in East Java, Cipanas Dam in Sumedang, Ciawi Dam in Bogor, Keureuto Dam in Aceh, Bulango Ulu Dam in Gorontalo, Sidan Dam in Bali and Sila Banyan Dam in Sumbawa .
