Inaugurated by the President, Kuningan Dam is Ready to Serve an Area of 3,000 Hectares

President Joko Widodo inaugurated the Kuningan Dam during his working visit to Kuningan Regency, West Java Province, on Tuesday, August 31, 2021, accompanied by Minister of Public Works and Public Housing (PUPR) Basuki Hadimuljono, Minister of State Secretary Pratikno, Governor of West Java Ridwan Kamil, Member of the Commission V DPR RI Mulyadi and Kuningan Regent Acep Purnama. After being inaugurated, the dam which is being worked on by PT Wijaya Karya (Persero) Tbk. – PT Brantas Abipraya (Persero) KSO is ready to be used.
"Alhamdulillah, the Kuningan Dam in West Java Province, which has been built for 7 years at a cost of Rp. 513 billion, has today been completed and is ready to be used," said the President in his remarks during the inauguration.
According to President Jokowi, the Kuningan Dam, which has a capacity of 25.9 million cubic meters, will function to supply water in a sustainable manner to 3,000 hectares of community rice fields around the dam, starting from Kuningan Regency, Cirebon Regency, to Brebes Regency.
"If the water supply for irrigation is maintained, farmers can increase their planting frequency from once a year to two or three times a year, so that they can increase production and also have an impact on the welfare of our farmers," he added.
In addition, the Kuningan Dam is also expected to provide other benefits for the surrounding community, ranging from water security, flood control, raw water supply of 0.30 cubic meters per second, to generating electricity of 0.5 megawatts.
President Jokowi also requested that the dam be connected to the arrangement of the irrigation network so that the presence of the Kuningan Dam can provide real benefits for providing irrigation water for farmers.
"I hope this dam can also provide added value to the region, not only increasing agricultural productivity but also facilitating the provision of clean water that is beneficial to the interests of the community," said the President.
After the inauguration of the Kuningan Dam, President Jokowi and his limited entourage went straight to Cakrabhuwana Airport, Cirebon City, to take off to Jakarta using the ATR 72-600 Special Aircraft.
