29 April 2021

JAKARTA, April 29th 2021 – Ministry of Public Works and Housing (PUPR) through The Directorate General of Water Resources, continues to build dams and retention basins in various regions. One of them is the Bintang Bano Dam as a multifunctional dam in Brang Rea District, West Sumbawa Regency, West Nusa Tenggara (NTB).

Minister of Public Works and Housing, Basuki Hadimuljono said that the key to development in NTB is water availability. "With the continuous supply of water from the dam, farmers who previously only planted once a year, could add to 2-3 crops," said Minister Basuki (4/29/2021).

Said by Minister Basuki, dam construction will be followed by its irrigation network construction. It will directly give benefits to irrigate farmers’ fields.

Bintang Bano Dam dams up the Brang Rea River stream with a total capacity of 65.84 million m3 and an inundation area of 277.52 hectares. The dam construction was designed with a height of 72 m, dam length of 497.25 m, peak width of 12 m, the elevation of the top of the dam +120 m.

Later on, this dam will produce the raw water of 555 liters/sec, and will be able to irrigate 6,695 hectares of land to support agriculture in West Sumbawa. Besides that, the presence of this dam provides benefits for a Micro Hydro Power Plant (PLTM) of 8,8 megawatts.

Not only for irrigation and raw water supply, this dam construction is necessary to control the repeated flood for a period of 25 years in Taliwang by reducing 22% equivalent of 647 m3/second.

Bintang Bano Dam also has tourism potential because its location has a good panorama and the forest conditions around it are still preserved.

This dam was built in two stages, with Phase I was being conducted in 2015-2019 with a budget of IDR 996.7 billion and Phase II in 2020-2021.

Phase I of Bintang Bano Dam construction was run by PT Brantas Abipraya - PT Hutama Karya - PT Bahagia Bangun Nusa (KSO) with a budget of IDR 441,4 billion. Currently, the physical progress of the Bintang Bano Dam construction has reached 50,42% and is targeted for completion on December 31st, 2021.

Bintang Bano Dam is one of the 61 dams that have become the National Strategic Projects (PSN). Besides Bintang Bano Dam, there are 5 other PSN dams in NTB province such as Tanju Dam and Mila Dam which the constructions had completed, and then Meninting Dam, Beringin Sila Dam, and Tiu Suntuk Dam that are still under constructions.
